My goal has
always been to create great family-friendly content. To that end I have
animated characters and composited special effects for a number of children's
productions, and served on the lighting/compositing team for the animated
children's series Boz the Bear.
I began
pursuing a career in animation by attending film school and assisting
the art director on the independent feature film The Printing.
This gave me a better understanding of cinematic storytelling. My first
taste of animation production came in college as a cel painter and animation
cameraman for the animated short Tropical Trouble.
My first
experience with computer animation came in grad school. I modeled and
animated a 1930s Jaguar in Paracomp Swivel 3D on a Mac IIci. The merging
of sculpture with animation enamored me. I had always preferred sculpture
over two-dimensional art, and 3D animation offered animated sculptures.
I was hooked!
As part
of my graduate studies I researched the relatively new field of desktop
computer animation. Based on that research, the university purchased
Alias PowerAnimator, Wavefront Composer, two Silicon Graphics Personal
Irises, and a Solitaire 8TD film recorder. Eventually I integrated four
3D animation courses and a digital compositing course into the film
curriculum.
In 2006 I
joined the lighting and compositing team at ReelFX Creative Studios
in Dallas, TX. At ReelFX I have worked on a number of exciting productions
including an animated feature film Open Season 2.
